Metal theft at cemetery in Poland
The Polish police are investigating theft and damage at Malbork Commonwealth War Cemetery near Gdansk in Poland.
The bronze door to the register box was removed, and a stainless steel information panel was also taken.
The stone pillar housing the register box was damaged.
Commission staff are carrying out emergency repairs to the stonework and the register box has been returned to the Northern Europe headquarters, at Ieper in Belgium, to be repaired and fitted with a new door.
The Commission is trialling resin doors to make them less of a target for metal thieves.
