After some hesitation [ many emotional comments to the original 1999 (?) video ] I decided to describe what had happened on the very day this topic "Veterans Day" was posted - Sunday 11 November 2012 - in another supermarket, ASDA in Gosport, Hampshire UK. I was in the supermarket that morning and heard ... classical music, may be oratory, sang by young women. The music and singing was nice, but it was rather unusual. Next there was an announcement about a minute of silence, and everbody stood still. Then, before 'the minute' was over, and I mean a minute of 60 seconds and not several minutes, very suddenly, without announcement, rock-and-roll music was turned on full blast (volume). I described another Veterans ceremony rudely interrupted as told by a British WW2 veteran in my first topic here "WW2 never ended ?" Not to forget, there was a mighty panic and injures resulting from a "Scream" during a Minute of Silence in Amsterdam Holland (was that 3 years ago?).
Some patterns emerging ?

No patterns, Amsterdam was just a twisted person who did not actually know what he was doing. No coördinated action with any political or social background what so-ever. Of the hundreds memorials that are being done in the Netherlands on May 4th, each year, almost never anything out of the ordinary happens.

I watched the video (nos.nl) of the incident in Amsterdam here in Gosport Library a couple of years ago. The sound was not on for some time. Later the sound came on and I remember a young woman talking of the feelings of terror and fright, especially for those with children. I also remember report about the culprit: old man, Orthodox Jew, known to the police and having been diagnosed (?) with mental problems. What he shouted was some hebrew prayer (?). There was a misterious laptop found on the scene.
I have difficulty finding the post or posts about that ceremony on this forum. Which year was it ?
Can someone help?

PS. I remember the NATO SHAPE organization explained with P standing for psychological training.

Non-sense, it was a psychologically disturbed person. Not a Jew, not even an old person. I think it is more disturbing that some people try to find anything behind matters that just do not excist. Do not see any WW2 relevence here.

( 1 ) The incident in Amsterdam on 4 May 2010 ( is this the correct date ? ) was reported by NOS, which can be called a 'Dutch BBC', with live video and interviews. I had no other source of information.
If that initial report was incorrect, was there any further reports setting facts right ?

( 3 ) While unsuccessfully searching for 4 May 2010 (?) event on this forum, I found someting else ! Is Eindhoven still called a Russian City ? Jeroen posted a report on Sept. 19, 2004 (ref. Eindhovense Dagblad) about 60th anniversary of Liberation of Eindhoven, at which a minute of silence was held for children, who died in Beslan.
Here in Gosport, UK, 2 charities are based: Children of Chernobyl and Children of Beslan.
A new charity HELP FOR HEROES for veterans has caused some controversyvery recently, with certain stores/supermarkets in Southampton not willing to display their posters in their shop windows.
Since Philips HQ are located in Eindhoven, I may as well add, that new street lamps were installed recently in Gosport, which are Philips Lamps and there is a controversy there as well (over the years).

Do you know who blocked the 10-minutes video of David the Dam-Screamer interviewed on a famous Dutch TV programme ? It got blocked here in UK shortly after I watched it in the Fareham Library yesterday afternoon.
I take my words about Screamer's mental sickness back, as the only and nearest to 'sickness' reference was made so far about him looking confused when arrested.
He has had a criminal record before 4 May 2010: violence, theft, drugs.
He had absolutely no remorse, played with words, such as : we in Holland have no duty/obligation to silence vs right to silence. Thought aloud about Breivik with a Kalashnikov during minute of silence in Amsterdam, almost boasted about his website (10-10-2010) and how busy he was answering e-mails sent to him. He mentioned Parnassusweg area in Amsterdam and some amateur theater ? Parnassusweg reminds me of ex-Soviet Dr. or Prof. Michael Stern and the Dutch Society of Friends of Nobel Laureates. He was also particular about his having been/frequenting Cafe Majestique. Majestic as Spectacular or Majestic 12?
May 4 is a Star Wars Day and has an entry in Wikipedia.
Somehow I remember MAY 5 celebrated as LIBERATION Day or VICTORY Day in Holland, a minute of silence being part of it. Then, Holocost Memorials became the thing or development. Now DODENherdenking seems like a yet another trend, with a suggestion of ALL who died being honored.
As American Naval wife Kay Griggs observed, they like booga-wooga, rituals, celebrations and dates.
TERRORISM and Organised Crime ... . There are many unsolved crimes in Holland and Belgium.

Dodenherdenking in the Netherlands is on May 4th each year and already there since WW2, so nothing new. May 5th is Liberation Day, also since WW2. The rest has nothing to do with WW2, so please stick to the subject that is being handled here on the forum, the History of World War Two. The rest is not of any intrest to us.
